Ghost Fest 2014

7 October -25 November, spine chilling selection of Ghost Fest events set to thrill Oxford Castle
Visitors should prepare for flesh-crawling encounters as they feel their way through the real prison hospital

Ghost Fest returns to Oxford Castle Unlocked, delivering a spine-chilling selection of events as the attraction stakes its claim as the spookiest festival in the UK calendar and the place to be this Halloween.

Maintaining its Ghost Fest roots, Friday and Saturday nights throughout the month will be filled with ghost hunts, vigils and paranormal experiments around the haunted site, which is renowned for its 1000 years of gruesome history as a castle and prison. After a hugely popular introduction in 2013, Terror Tuesdays returns with the 1000-year-old castle prison transformed into Oxford’s only scare attraction. Terror Tuesdays will stand out among all other Halloween events as the most hard-core and intense fright night experience. Visitors should prepare for genuine horror and flesh-crawling encounters as they feel their way through the real prison hospital and down into the subterranean crypt. The event will be held every Tuesday in October and November between 7pm and 9pm.

Oxford Castle Unlocked has teamed up with restaurants once again to offer a sinister journey inside the haunted heart of the former Royal residence and prison, rounded off with a sumptuous meal. The After Dark Dinners will take place every Thursday evening* in October and November starting at 6.30pm.

Visitors can try out the gripping Robbers Revenge Murder Mystery on 15 October and 19 November when famously sinister convicts will keep guests on their toes as they work their way through the dark arches and winding corridors of the Castle, down into the atmospheric 900-year-old crypt. Prices start from £35 per person.

Steel yourself for a ghoulishly gory Halloween half term at Oxford Castle Unlocked as we explore execution, using the castle’s millennia of history as our guide. From 25 October to 2 November, discover the crimes that justified the penalty and meet the executioner whose job it was to carry out the deadly deed. Complete a family friendly interactive trail around the castle and encounter a selection of the castle’s characters who would have faced the threat of execution during their stay.

Haunting its way through history, Oxford Castle Unlocked is recognised as one of the spookiest buildings in Britain. The visitor attraction has hosted Ghost Fest since it was opened by the Queen in 2006 and is rumoured to be home to 15 paranormal spirits!

Oxford Castle Unlocked is a 1000-year castle, which was also used as a place of incarceration for over 800 years. The attraction offers a 40-minute guided tour with a costumed character from the castle’s history, exploring the Saxon stone-built St. George’s Tower, the atmospheric crypt, the preserved prison wing and the archaic man-made mound offering breath-taking views of Oxford.
