Iconic war play at Oxford Playhouse

From prominent company Headlong, renowned for its bold and inventive approach, this iconic war play by Frank McGuinness focuses on a small group of Irishmen due to take part in one of the bloodiest battles in human history.
This play delves into the lives and thoughts of eight men from the 36th Ulster Division during World War I, prior to taking part in The Battle of the Somme.
Told from the perspective of Pyper, the sole survivor of the group, in his later life he returns to the past and revisits his lost friends and comrades, touching on their relationships with each other, the war and the impending death that hangs over them.
Directed by Headlong’s Artistic Director Jeremy Herrin (Tony and Olivier Award nominee), this all-male cast stars seasoned actor Seán McGinley (Braveheart), along with Andy Kellegher (Game of Thrones) and Ryan Donaldson (Cheek by Jowl’s The Winter’s Tale). One hundred years on, this iconic play is still as powerful as ever in its portrayal of mortality, love and loss.
