Starts at a whisker over £8,000 and comes with that Kia seven year warranty...

Funny how we see so many Kia’s on the road now. That’s because they’ve sussed what we Europeans want; value aligned to good packaging and niche, but inoffensive styling.

External factors come into it too: more traffic congestion, more anti-pollution and environmental protection legislation, more speed cameras than any other country in Europe, and almost zero tolerance of marginal speed limit excesses;

all of a sudden purchasing a little Kia Picanto makes sense.

Not least because this latest Picanto, revealed at the Geneva Motor Show in March of this year starts at a whisker over £8,000 and comes with that self-confident Kia seven year warranty.

New for 2015 is a revised front end, featuring new headlights and a new bumper design with vertical fog-lamp housing, and a restyled bumper. They don’t yet, but from this autumn, the economical little 1.0 litre and 1.25 litre kappa engines (the two engine options available) will meet EU6 emissions regulations and develop more torque at lower rpm.

The interior has been uprated somewhat to a higher quality look; every model now has chrome rings on the three cylinder instrument cluster and chrome accents on the air vent knobs, enhanced by high gloss lack finish to the gear selector. High spec models also benefit from privacy glass, automatic lights, cruise control, and speed limiter.

As before, the new Picanto is offered in three and five door versions, with 11 varied spec and trim options available – yet space and versatility remains a common feature throughout the range. Prices start at £8,345 for the entry level Picanto 1.0 3dr, to £12,295 for the top of the range Picanto 4 1.25 ISG.
