A vibrant fortnight of celebrations

Windsor Festival is celebrating 45 years of entertainment in autumn 2015. The highly respected annual arts festival will be located within and around the grounds of Windsor Castle, and takes place from 20 September 2015 to 4 October 2015.

The vibrant fortnight of celebrations will reflect on the signing of the Magna Carta at Runnymede, the anniversaries of the Battles at Agincourt and Waterloo, and Windsor’s place in Royal history.

Highlights of this year’s programme are below.

Windsor Festival 2015

• The concert “Celebrating Magna Carta” with the English Chamber Orchestra and Jane Glover takes place in the fitting surroundings of St George’s Chapel on Wednesday 30 September at 7:30pm and forms part of the celebration to mark the 800th anniversary of the signing of the Magna Carta at Runnymede. The programme for the evening, performed by the illustrious English Chamber Orchestra under the baton of Jane Glover, is inspired by English democracy and the City of London referred to in the Magna Carta’s golden clauses.

• Commemorating 600 years since the Battle of Agincourt, St George’s Chapel will play host to an evening of rousing masterpieces as we see the return of Orpheus Sinfonia to the Festival stage on Friday 2 October at 7:30pm. This orchestra of exceptional young professionals, led by the dynamic artistic direction of their principal conductor Thomas Carroll, will bring to life Walton’s score for the 1943 Laurence Olivier film Henry V. Following the 5th Windsor Festival International String Competition, which took place in March, winner, South Korean violinist Ji Yoon Lee, will perform the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto with the competition’s Associate Orchestra and firm Festival favourite the Philharmonia Orchestra on Thursday 24 September at 19:30. The evening’s programme will also comprise a mixture of Opera, music for strings and the powerhouse that is Brahms’ 3rd Symphony, written when he was a 50-year-old bachelor.

Martin Denny, Windsor Festival Director, said: “Windsor Festival is marking 45 years of entertainment this autumn, and we are excited to be presenting you with a particularly thrilling programme of events. We hope this captures your imagination as much as ours, and invite you to join us for a vibrant fortnight of celebrations as we reflect on the signing of the Magna Carta at Runnymede, the anniversaries of the Battles at Agincourt and Waterloo, and Windsor’s place in Royal history.”
