CORN EXCHANGE NEWBURY AND 101 OUTDOOR ARTS PRESENT DOMINOES

“The first domino will fall at 3pm on Saturday 25 June”

Corn Exchange Newbury and 101 Outdoor Arts are excited to present Dominoes by Station House Opera, taking place in Newbury Town Centre on Saturday 25 June, to mark Greenham Trust’s 25th anniversary.

Thousands of concrete blocks will be installed by hundreds of volunteers to form a meandering line through the town, traversing roads, pavements, waterways and parks. At a pre-arranged signal, the first block falls, knocking over the second, the third and the fourth – gaining momentum until the toppling blocks surge through the streets, creating a spectacle that is engaging, mesmerising and witty.

Blocks climb steps, cross bridges, teeter from high places and execute gravity defying routines along the route. Visitors can choose their place to watch as the domino fall comes past or plan to chase them en route to their final destination in this monumental but fleeting installation.

Station House Opera is an internationally renowned performance company with a unique physical and visual style. Founded in 1980 it has produced over 30 productions of widely varying scale and focus, but all rooted in an interest to make work that brings together theatre and the visual arts in a single unified vision. The company has created projects in a variety of locations all over the world, from New York's Brooklyn Bridge Anchorage to Dresden's historic Frauenkirche and Salisbury Cathedral, and has toured the world, from Azerbaijan to Kosovo, China to Brazil.

Corn Exchange Newbury and 101 Outdoor Arts are proud to partner with Greenham Trust’s 25th Anniversary Youth Appeal for this epic event. Money raised at this event will go to support young people in the local area aged 11 to 25 and every donation will be matched by Greenham Trust.

150 volunteers are needed to make this event happen, to work together as a part of a Dominoes team to ensure the tumbling dominoes continue on their journey during the fall. To get involved in this fun event, email hello@101outdoorarts.com. Volunteers must be 14 years and over and accompanied by an adult if under 18.

The first domino will fall at 3pm on Saturday 25 June and a map of the route will be available from the Corn Exchange website. Tickets are free (no booking required).
