Clicking Snooze On 2022

“Happy 6am of the year, embrace the chaos and just wake up by February”

Whether intentionally or not, Christmas, New Year, and that weird bit in between, have adopted the same energy as that of the end of a really long day. I think we can all agree too, that 2021 gave off big Monday vibes. By that rule, January should hereby be referred to as the 6am of the year, and in my opinion it’s a right-off. Everyone has sleep in their eyes, our alarms are blaring, and nobody’s brushed their teeth yet, its chaos – what are we even doing awake yet?

I personally have a habit of letting the way my morning goes determine how well the rest of my day will go too – one grumpy bus driver, one sh*t coffee, or one person walking that little bit too slow in front of me, is enough for me to decide that the rest of my day is therefore allowed to be sh*t too. I think this attitude is quite often reflected into New Year’s as well, except in this instance there’s more at stake than just 24 hours. It really doesn’t help that the very beginning of the year is – for me at least – usually comprised of crippling ‘hanxiety’, intense regret and a really foul taste of Jager bombs – not a great start.

So much emphasis is put on ‘new beginnings’ and ‘fresh starts’ in January, regardless of in what state you left the previous year. I’m by no means suggesting that to solve this, we should all start trying to see the lighter side of our hangovers or our crappy coffees, but instead, that we put less pressure on good starts. A bad start doesn’t mean a bad duration, so this year, my resolution is to stop putting pressure on perfection, and when I inevitably fail in doing so, to not take it out on the rest of 2022.

Happy 6am of the year, embrace the chaos and just wake up by February. x
