Foodstuff was launched in Cambridge in 2020 as the lockdown baby of two foodie entrepreneurs Toby Savill and James Perry who hopped on their bikes to support their local indie restaurants. Indies rejoiced! Emission free delivery, fairly paid riders and no crippling commission on every order, what’s not to like?
Since then Foodstuff has expanded into indie meccas Bristol, Manchester, Bath, and is now coming to Oxford.
“The reception we’ve had has been unreal with nearly 40k orders so far, but we knew we had to grow to make a real difference to the industry” said Savill. “Foodstuff is more than just a food delivery service, it’s a community of riders, restaurants and food lovers and we really feel that our model will resonate in Oxford”
So, what exactly is Foodstuff?
Foodstuff is an ordering platform and delivery service for local, independent restaurants. “Foodstuff rebels against the usual food delivery model, ditching high commissions in favour of a simple subscription model with the aim of keeping more profits in the pockets of the restaurants. We’re also proud to say there will never be any petrol powered vehicles in our fleet”
Foodstuff currently has around 100 vendors across their three operational cities and around 200 riders. We’ve got awesome Oxford brands like Taste Tibet, Delish, White Rabbit, Glut, Plant and Grills, JoJo's, Shiraz and SO many more onboard.
One thing Foodstuff is really proud of is the rider welfare. Although riding solo they have a strong support network and are treated as their Front of House staff, rather than gig workers. Riders are guaranteed National Living Wage (plus holiday) for the hours they work, and are offered benefits such as bike insurance and of course, Foodstuff takeaway vouchers!
