The Händel Festival Choir

Charity concert produced in collaboration with Oxford University Tokyo, Mansfield College Oxford, C-Pro Japan, ASF London and The International Music Exchange.

Sheldonian Theatre, Broad St, Oxford

Sunday 23 Feb 2020, 5pm

On what would have been G.F. Händel’s 335th birthday on the 23rd February 2020, the Sheldonian Theatre will be hosting a very special performance of his classic oratorio, ‘The MESSIAH’ by the Händel Festival Choir from Japan. The choir performs the work annually in different locations worldwide, conducted by Hideyuki Tsuji. This year, 100 amateur singers are making a visit to Oxford with orchestral accompaniment from the acclaimed Verdandi Camerata. The choir will be joined by an accomplished cast of soloists, soprano Naomi Satake, alto Louise Innes, tenor Hirohisa Tsuji and award-winning Baritone Adam Green.

The choir will also perform the world premiere of ‘Majora Canamus’ by Japanese composer Akane Nakanishi.

The concert is free entrance with a suggested donation of £10 to local charity Asylum Welcome. Proceeds will go towards supporting the charity’s work helping people seeking refuge in Oxford and Oxfordshire, such as running a food bank and providing vital advice and practical services. asylum-welcome.org
