Local duo to run 1,000 miles between them for Abingdon charity across July

“These days people do so many different things to raise money we decided we had to come  up with something quite outrageous”

Race to the Stones’ is an incredible endurance feat for anyone – but for Bryn Davis and Conor Rourke it’s just one small part of a mammoth 500 mile challenge.

The Wallingford duo are running every single day in July, and are including the iconic 100km ‘Race to the Stones’ on Saturday, 10 July in their quest to complete 1,000 miles between them.

Bryn, 50, and personal trainer Conor, 25, are hoping to raise around £8,000 for Abingdon based charity the NasioTrust, which supports vulnerable children and communities in western Kenya.

“These days people do so many different things to raise money we decided we had to come up with something quite outrageous,” said Bryn, a programme manager. The two are no strangers to taking on impressive feats for Nasio – in 2019 they ran 100 miles in just 24 hours and completed a half marathon every day in May last year.

They are also encouraging other runners to join them at any point along their challenge. Members of Run Wallingford, of which Bryn is a Run Leader, are getting involved, while Runwise are also supporting the event, providing vests and t-shirts.

“We’ve been planning this for quite a while,” said Bryn, “hopefully as more people get involved it will have a snowball effect and raise more money for this worthwhile cause.”

Nasio’s work in Kenya has included opening a Medical Centre to provide care to communities who would otherwise not be able to access healthcare, and they now plan to expand the centre.

CEO Nancy Hunt said: “Funds raised by Bryan and Conor will help us provide more lifesaving care. We are so thankful to have their incredible support and wish them luck.”
