Medieval Mayhem takes over Oxford Castle Quarter

“No medieval day would be complete without a proper swordfight as skilled warriors battle it out within the Castle grounds.”

History is set to come to life at Oxford’s most historic site this August, as Oxford Castle Quarter hosts a free to attend Medieval Fayre – packed full of exciting activities!

From the clash of blades in the exercise yard, fire juggling by resident jester, "The Fool Monty" and Big Beynon's Blacksmithing’s live historical display, the grounds of Oxford Castle Quarter will be the setting of a myriad of events wrapped up in the history of the Middle Ages.

Visitors to the site, over the weekend of Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th August, will be given a musical welcome from medieval minstrels "Sloe Gin" while enjoying the sights and smells of the Gallic Cauldren ‘Pario Gallico’ for lessons in how to cook - medieval style!

Youngsters will be enthralled by puppet shows from ‘Castle Small’, and tales from ‘Maggie the Gossip’, before trying their hand with a longbow and grabbing a sword for "Knight School" - and of course, no medieval day would be complete without a proper swordfight as skilled warriors battle it out within the Castle grounds!

If all the Medieval action leaves visitors hungry for a banquet, Oxford Castle Quarter’s on-site Pizza Express, Prezzo, Malmaison and The Slug & Lettuce will be open for business with a range of menus to suit everyone’s taste buds.

The Medieval Fayre at Oxford Castle Quarter will be held on Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th August from 11am until 6pm.
