From an apprenticeship working on Rolls Royce and Bentley cars, to running arguably, one of the finest joinery companies in the Cotswolds. Nick Rowland, owner of Rowood Ltd, explains the challenges and successes he has seen running a woodwork company over the past 25 years!
Finding my drive
Having left school back in the late 90’s with no clear direction into what to do next, I decided to accept an apprenticeship working locally working on Rolls Royce and Bentley cars. A decision which would later see me turn my labour of love into becoming the proud owner of my own successful joinery and woodworking company, of which I’m proud of to this day.
Working on pre World War II, timber framed Rolls Royce and Bentley cars was fantastic for a young lad starting out. And under the close supervision of my mentor I soon became a wood turner, transforming logs of wood into the highest quality, bespoke veneers, dashboards and interiors. The skills I gained and knowledge of woodturning techniques gave me such a great start in life. The passion for creating one-off woodwork pieces had begun...
Drawing strength from the thriving Cotswolds community
Rowood Ltd has now been trading for over 20 years, operating in the heart of the Cotswolds amongst a thriving business community. We rebranded in 2016, and took a big step forward for the company and moved into our purpose built workshop in Brize Norton. Our team is growing from strength to strength, each of us has a sense of pride in our work which is why we now individually sign our kitchens and furniture pieces to reflect this. The testimonials we receive installs faith, we’ve got this right. In a digital world where kitchens & furniture can be purchased in the click of a button, there is still a need for a personable, bespoke woodworking business where expectations are exceeded.
Variety is the spice of life
In the world of joinery and woodworking, there’s no such word as “No”. Our main work is creating beautiful kitchens for homes or trade clients, however we have made everything from bespoke wine cellar storage, unique home libraries, stately home pagodas, security gates, swimming pool and outhouses woodwork etc. We put our creative heads together to make some fantastic designs, on a regular basis. I personally get very excited when a new kitchen commission comes in. For me it’s the heart of any home and with clients choosing new and innovative storage solutions, it keeps us very busy.
