WOMEN IN FOCUS 2022

“We have a packed month-long programme of  stereotype busting, gender dismantling and patriarchy smashing shows, gigs and events”

Girl. Mother. Trans-Woman. Sister. Daughter. Female-Identifying. Woman.

Women carry and are given many labels, and this International Women's Day, we want to pick apart these identities and celebrate what being a woman means in 2022 with the return of our annual festival: Women in Focus.

We have a packed month-long programme of  stereotype busting, gender dismantling and patriarchy smashing shows, gigs and events from some of the finest female musicians, artists, performers and more, so whoever you are and however you identify, come down and get involved!

This year’s festival highlights include an online screening of multi-award nominated Irish writer Laura Wyatt O’Keefe’s acclaimed play, Vessel; 666 Comments which brings the virtual world into astonishingly vivid reality about in this hilarious yet terrifying show about online sexism; a poetry workshop exploring female identity, the labels we are given and the stories we choose to tell about ourselves; live gigs from the Spotlight Sounds’ Music She Makes programme and Centre Stage; a cabaret extravaganza from Fool’s Moon with comedy, drag, music and dance; an authentic Roda De Samba from Samba De Raiz UK; and a film screening of Generation Rebellion from Magic Me exploring the power of intergenerational, female-led activism. The festival will finish with an exhibition of portraiture photography from a 6-week course led by local photographers, Sylvie Belbouab and Pierre Bureau looking at identity and perception.
