Well. What a tremendous festival Truck is. You’ve probably heard of it (and if you haven’t then you definitely need to head to their site for 2020 early bird tickets) has it all for all generations.
A homecoming gig of sorts for one of our own, Foals, there was a real sense of anticipation for the Oxfordshire band. Headlining and understandably so. They certainly didn’t disappoint. An absolute class set was played.
Mr Lewis Capaldi set the scene on the Friday evening as the sun came down. His endearing fresh ballads had the sell-out crowd wanting more. Unbelievable vocals that sound so strong live. Asked what that was like, ‘fucking unbelievable!’ was the reply.
We ought to mention Sunset Sons too who smashed their set under the Friday night sky in The Nest. A rustic sounding rock band with cool rifts and incredible vocals. Like the Kings of Leon? Then these guys are well worth a Spotify listen here.
We also need to mention the Hot 8 Brass Band who have been on our bucket list to see for some time. All the way from New Orleans, these guys uplifted the Sunday Truck crowd and we loved it! #WeBrassHard.
There were so many other cool acts from all genres to enjoy – Two Door Cinema Club, Sea Girls, Ten Tonnes, Wolf Alice, Jonny Marr, the list could go on... And on. And on.
Yet, for us an absolute highlight of Truck Festival was its Food Hall and that’s not just because there’s plenty of great food to eat (you know we love that at OX HQ). It was run by many of our good friends down at local Rotary Clubs. All proceeds as well went straight back into good causes for our local communities – a fab idea if we say so ourselves! Hats off to Truck Festival for giving back to the community we live in. We should definitely see more of this at all festivals big or small.
Anything that put us off? Not a lot if we’re totally honest. It’s a perfect entry level festival; safe, well organised and for only £99.50 (early bird price though) for the whole weekend, it’s a very affordable and fun weekend ‘in your own backyard’. It’s also ideal for families and young children too with a dedicated children’s activities area with games, face painting, storytelling and more.
