Aren’t we all craving something fresh? It might seem discordant at first sight, but very quickly the eye adapts, and the pairing looks perfectly symbiotic. Camel is the ultimate neutral, and neutrals are elevated from classic to current when worn with vivid tones.

Talking of classic, our hero piece this month is the trench coat. Of course, a trench needn’t be camel but Marks & Spencer’s seasonal offering is a commendable example of the archetype. We’re particularly taken by the military details notes: the practical design, storm flaps, the epaulettes, the neat buckle belt, and all for just

The abundance of soft springtime hues provide commendable contrast here, with golden yellows as the dominating note. This exquisite square of molten silk is the antithesis of the coat with its muted, rigid structure which makes it a most intriguing match. Trio of Hares from the Enchanted Forest collection,

In 1967, New York City decreed that all official ‘medallion taxis’ be painted yellow to make them easy to spot, and prevent fraudulent pick-ups. Why yellow? Doubtless this is some sort of reaction to months of neutral but cosy leisurewear but colour has never looked quite so exciting. Colour blocking and co-ords are reigning supreme, but the beauty of the colour wheel is it helps keep your tones grouped (warm or cool) or it can be used as a quick guide to contrasting or clashing shades which look surprisingly, fantastically ‘fashion’ when worn together.
