It is two years since Sam Edwards and Jak Doggett took over the barbeque at the Upton Firehouse. The venue, on the outskirts of Burford is open for breakfast and lunch Wednesday to Sunday with a Pizza Night every Wednesday evening.
Early diners can expect a traditional full English breakfast or go for something a little different like Smashed Avocado with spring onions, chilli, coriander and seeds with poached eggs or take on the Firehouse special of slow cooked beef brisket served on crumpets with a fried egg. The lunch offering is also a little different, utilising the large grill and oven that give this restaurant its name. Wood fired fish of the day with heirloom tomato salad and new potatoes or Tamworth pork chop with crushed potatoes, purple sprouting and Roquefort butter. Sunday roasts have been added to the menu recently as well.
Sam, 32 and Jak, 27, took over after years at award winning Cirencester eatery Made By Bob, sadly no longer there. Sam had previously worked and trained at The Manor House in Moreton-in-Marsh. It was at Made By Bob they worked and learnt so much from the then chef patron – Bob Parkinson. The pair also run an outside catering business and cook for private clients as well as events. With not enough on their plates they also have their own range of sauces to compliment their barbeque and smoked food offerings, sweet chilli, sriracha, ketchup and a salad dressing.
The Firehouse is currently open for takeaway. Pizza on Wednesday and a set barbeque menu on Friday nights. At the weekend they will be serving up their tasty burgers, salads and juices for you to once again takeaway as well as other options. The smokery shop and grocery also remains open for your essentials.
Once government restrictions have lifted The Firehouse at Upton is open for breakfasts Wednesday to Sunday 8am-11am. Pizza Night runs from 4pm- 9pm Wednesdays while lunch is served Wednesday to Sunday 12pm-3pm.
