Whenever this isle is blessed with sun, there’s one place you’ll be sure to find me: under a parasol, drinking some kind of fruity drink. And now, there’s a new spot where I can do exactly that. Flight Club at the Westgate has revamped its rooftop terrace just in time for the gorgeous weather we’ve been having.
Tucked behind the venue’s carnival parlour is a secret balcony overlooking the blissful Hinksey hills, the view being a great balance to the vibrant social atmosphere atop the terrace. The floral displays provide some great pops of colour among the al fresco seating; there’s shade for the scorching days, and heaters if it gets chilly at sundown. I can see myself hanging out and shooting a few darts after work or brunch with pals.
To go with the botanical vibe is the aptly-named Flight Club in Bloom limited-edition cocktail menu. Standouts here were the Mango No 5 which takes my all-time favourite fruit and adds tequila – yes please. And Love Wins tastefully pays tribute to Pride this summer, donating £1 to the LGBTQ+ run mental health charity MindOut each time it’s purchased. The cocktail features Stonewall Dry Gin (I see what you did there) and a rainbow of fruit flavours.
The only downside was the realisation that I absolutely suck at darts. But as the good sport I am, I took my inaccuracy on the chin. After all, practice makes perfect - so I guess I have a good excuse to revisit the terrace a few more times this summer!
