Most people in the Western world live busy lives and hardly have time to take care of themselves. At least that is what they tell themselves. Instead of focusing on going out to cafés, concerts, and sport events every chance they get, it would be more beneficial to find the right balance, but how? It depends on the individual and how they manage their leisure time, but with the right mindset and creative planning, anyone can go from feeling burned out to having a life in balance. In this article, you can find inspiration on how to do it yourself.
Build habits into what you already do
The word wellness makes most people think of Yoga and an expensive spa, but in reality, wellness covers a lot more. Our diet greatly impacts our health, energy levels, and how we feel in general. If you are one of us who often take the shortest route to food and order in it would be a great start to look at your diet and optimize it with a focus on energy and health. The alone can do a lot for how you feel daily, but that is not all you can do.
If your job requires a lot of meetings, either in person or on the phone, if possible, start doing walking meetings either in person, where you walk with the person by taking a walk while on the phone. Is your workplace one of those that has elevators? Then use the stairs instead.
Start slow and turn it up
For people who have lived stressful lives with little to no exercise over a longer period, it is important not to rush into a full-scale workout routine but to take it slow and get into it at a more reasonable pace. Start with 5 minutes of exercises, a good morning stretch routine, and drink an extra glass of water. If possible, then walk to work instead of taking the bus or the tube. Keep adding new habits to things you are already doing. Making tea? Do some squats while you wait for the water to boil and while the tea is brewing. Getting into a routine at a slow pace prepares the body for a harder and more intense exercise routine.
The body needs more than a physical workout
Workout is crucial for the body, but just as the gym or exercises at home can build muscle and increase stamina, your brain also needs a workout routine. Meditation, puzzles, and reading are all ways of strengthening the mental state and should not be overlooked. Body and mind are connected, and they both need training and restitution, so even if wellness is not limited to Yoga and fancy spa’s it can be the thing that completes a workout routine. Over time, it can take any person from a feeling of being completely burned out to a state of both physical and mental balance, which will ultimately bring more energy and a more positive mood in daily life.
