Oxford Playhouse has announced the launch of a new programme of work, Playhouse Plays On: The Creativity Continues, to encourage creativity and keep audiences connected during the period of closure as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic. Whilst the doors of the theatre building are closed, the creative work of Oxford Playhouse continues within the community.

The Playhouse Plays On: The Creativity Continues programme will be rolled out over the coming weeks and will include ten key strands of work, ranging from playwriting to online classes and workshops; from learning resources for schools to creative challenges over social media channels.

Laura Elliot, Programme Director for Oxford Playhouse said:

In these unprecedented times we want to continue to offer creative opportunities to keep people uplifted, inspired and ‘together’ while in isolation or social distancing. Our building may be closed, but our vision to be a Playhouse for Everyone continues.”

The Playhouse Plays On: The Creativity Continues programme will be offered over social media channels and the Playhouse website and through communication from Oxford Playhouse’s Participation Team.

All performances scheduled at Oxford Playhouse and the Burton Taylor studio have been suspended until 2 May 2020. Oxford Playhouse will review future performances in the coming weeks.

Louise Chantal, Director / CEO Oxford Playhouse commented: “The current situation is a huge challenge for all the cultural partners throughout the region, country and the world. The Playhouse is determined to play a leading role within our community, providing creative opportunities for all, even if the building is closed. Oxford Playhouse is grateful to Arts Council England for its leadership and support of the cultural sector at this difficult time. I would also like to thank our committed team at Oxford Playhouse and our audiences for their continued support and all of our kind supporters who are donating to our fundraising appeal to ensure the Playhouse can Play on…we will all need the arts more than ever in the months ahead!
