Simple Minds and Deacon Blue To Perform At Blenheim Palace For Nocturne Live 2020

divider

One of the most successful and iconic UK bands of all time, the 60 million-selling, international chart-toppers Simple Minds are the latest act lined up to headline the Nocturne Live concert series this summer. Fronted by founder members Jim Kerr (vocals) and Charlie Burchill (guitar), the band are currently celebrating 40 years in music and will perform a greatest hits set at Blenheim Palace featuring a selection of their best-known songs including ‘Don’t You (Forget About Me)’, ‘Alive And Kicking’ and ‘Sanctify Yourself’.

Support will come from fellow Scottish pop-rock band Deacon Blue, who enjoyed widespread success throughout the 1980s and ‘90s selling over 7 million albums and notching up fourteen UK Top 40 singles and two UK number one albums along the way. They’ll perform a career-spanning set including music from their soon-to-be-released new studio album ‘City Of Love’.

Simple Minds’ Jim Kerr:You’ll hear all the classics, and all the big songs. And for the hard core we’ll be playing some songs that we haven’t played for a while. Simple Minds are different now. We’re not a stock rock band, but we haven’t changed our line-up to be cool. We’ve done it because it’s great to have so many amazing players on board. I’m grateful for the career we’ve had, but I’m mad enough to think we can still hit new levels. This is what we do – write, record and play live.”

Simple Minds and Deacon Blue will perform at Blenheim Palace as part of this year’s Nocturne Live concert series on Friday June 19th. They join Lionel Richie, who headlines on Saturday June 20th, and David Gray, who celebrates the 20th anniversary of his seminal album White Ladder on Thursday June 18th with support from 12 million-selling Lighthouse Family and Nerina Pallot.

Tickets for Simple Minds and Deacon Blue start at £35 and go on sale on Friday February 21st from nocturnelive.com.

For the uninitiated, Nell Mescal (yes, sister of actor Paul) is an Irish singer-songwriter who hit the festival circuit hard last summer, playing (amongst others) The Great Escape, BST Hyde Park, Boardmasters and Live at Leeds. This year, she’s headed to Oxfordshire and Alex James’ Big Feastival for August bank holiday weekend. Eloise Lonsdale caught up with her to find out more about her musical style and her recently launched EP, Can I Miss it For a Minute.
