Founded by charter in 1571, Burford has been providing an outstanding education to the children of West Oxfordshire, and beyond, for 450 years. Today we are a highly successful co-educational school for students aged 11-18. We have a strong sixth form of around 200 students and 100 UK and international boarders, all of whom benefit from our attractive 40 acre site high above the town of Burford.
Academic success forms part of what makes Burford special and the commitment of our staff, to help students achieve the best possible grades to enter the most appropriate university, is rewarded each summer. Over the last ten years our exam results have consistently improved from good to outstanding and for the last three years our A-level results have put us in the top 25% of schools nationally. We offer a broad and stimulating curriculum which includes subjects such as Music, Drama and three Modern Foreign Languages, alongside Maths, Science, Technology and English.
The majority of our students go on to university; most of them to those in the Russell Group, including Oxford and Cambridge. Some choose highly regarded art and drama schools and a number each year gain valuable apprenticeships within prestigious companies such as IBM, Mercedes and Air Tanker.
Pastoral Support and Personal Development
The atmosphere within the school is one of mutual respect and positive attitudes. High standards of behaviour and the building of mature relationships prepare students to become thoughtful, considerate and responsible individuals. Our wide-ranging extra-curriculum offer enables students to develop new skills and discover new interests whilst the extensive pastoral support motivates them to strive higher and achieve rewarding personal goals.
