Sue Ryder Palliative Care Hub South Oxfordshire is based in Wallingford and provides expert and compassionate palliative care at home and in the community to people who are living with life-limiting conditions such as cancer, heart failure and lung disease.

The hub’s team of Sue Ryder Nurses, doctors, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, family support and befrienders provide a Hospice at Home service, Day Service and Care Coordination and Advice Line.

The Hospice at Home Service is available seven days a week 8am-8pm and combines specialist medical care for managing pain and other symptoms, with emotional, practical and spiritual support which is provided to patients at home in the community.

In addition, the telephone line provides specialist advice, support and care co-ordination to patients, their families and carers, and healthcare professionals. Patients can speak to specialist Sue Ryder nurses and consultants who work together with local GPs, community nursing teams, and other palliative care providers to achieve the highest standard of care.

A befriending service offers social support and companionship.

Each year Sue Ryder Palliative Care Hub South Oxfordshire provides approximately 80,000 hours of support to patients and their families in the local community. The care is free, but it costs, and currently the government provides only one third of the funding that hospices and palliative care hubs need.

Sue Ryder, like the rest of the sector, must rely on fundraising activities, voluntary donations and generosity of its supporters to cover the remaining costs and ensure it can continue to provide the expert and compassionate care it is so well known for. A gift of £145 could pay for a Sue Ryder Nurse for a day.

Whether someone wants to organise an event, take part in a fundraising challenge, or honour a loved one by setting up an online Incredible Memories Fund, the hub’s fundraising team provide support and guidance every step of the way.
