The Mazda 6

Enhancements to the 2015 Mazda6 model range bring an even greater premium segment feel to the car, which put the brand on the fleet map more than a decade ago. At the heart of the Mazda6 is the marque’s breakthrough SKYACTIV technology, which is the no compromise choice for fleet managers and company car drivers in terms of delivering outstanding emissions and excellent fuel economy.

Thanks to SKYACTIV technology, engineers have been able to deliver superb environmental-friendliness without resorting to the smaller engine displacements of some rival models.

Consequently, company car drivers can obtain diesel performance that translate into major fuel savings and emission reductions without any power or performance compromise. Meanwhile, reducing business mileage across many organisations coupled with the low emissions and fuel economy benefits of SKYACTIV technology is paving the way for driving forward demand for petrol-engined Mazda6 models.
SKYACTIV technology contributed to Mazda corporate sales increasing by more than a third in 2014, significantly above the industry increase as recorded by Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders’ data. Furthermore, Mazda Contract Hire enjoyed another record year with leasing demand rising by around 75 per cent, particularly with strong interest from the small and medium sized business sector.

The introduction of DAB radio at the request of customers and a wide range of new standard equipment coupled with a plethora of safety-focused enhancements – a major factor in winning corporate business with occupational road risk management a key issue for employers – is anticipated to further boost Mazda6 demand from businesses.

Volvo XC60

The XC60 D4 FWD is the best-selling Volvo model for corporate buyers, closely followed by the V40 D2. As the first XC60 variant to boast Volvo’s new four-cylinder, two-litre in-house designed and engineered Drive-E powertrain, the D4 provides a class-leading combination of performance with low emissions, delivering 190HP and just 117g/km, resulting in a BIK value of around £220 per month for a 40% tax payer. The space, versatility and practicality offered in an XC60, as well as the highly-equipped standard specification which includes City Safety, Bluetooth and DAB radio, make it an attractive proposition for any business user.

Toyota Avensis

Prior to the recent introduction of the New Avensis Toyota already sold a Business Edition Avensis, whilst the new Avensis has a Business Edition and a Business Edition Plus. The Business Edition Plus gives even more choice to business user choosers in this market adding additions such as leather upholstery, smart entry and push button start, front fog lamps with cornering function, LED headlamps and rear privacy glass.

Toyota are expecting around 80% of the New Avensis sales of approx. 5,000 units this year will be a combination of the two business grades. Toyota have made this model exceptionally well spec’d for the price and all Avensis models now have Toyota Safety Sense as Standard (see our road test in this issue for more details).

Hyundai Ix35

Taking a quick look at Hyundai, their best-selling fleet model is the ix35, accounting for just under 8,000 fleet sales YTD (followed by i30 accounting for 6,631 sales YTD).

The Ix35 is the most popular due to the trend of people moving away from traditional C and D segment cars into the C-SUV segment, offering a lifestyle vehicle suitable from both family and business life. It also offers a cheaper, but just as practical, option to D-segment vehicles.
