In addition to quality coaching, a competitive fixtures list and competing in the Natwest Schools Cup, Cokethorpe uses international tours to develop player’s experience in preparation for playing at the highest level. Cokethorpe School’s First XV rugby team recently completed a hugely successful summer tour to North America. The team played a series of fixtures starting in New York State, USA before crossing the border to Ontario, Canada and did not concede a single point, finishing the tour undefeated.

The tour was a great opportunity for players to gain experience against international competition in unfamiliar environments. The opposition’s style of play, different playing surfaces and testing weather conditions posed new challenges insight into North American culture and the growing popularity of rugby in the region.

The tour results show that Cokethorpe is set for a promising year with the team strength and player’s enthusiasm demonstrating the merits of the tour. Mr Lloyd Morgan, Head of Rugby is confident about the season ahead. He said: “The aim is to continue to build on the progress made last year and have another successful season across all age groups. With a strong core of players competing at County level and some promising newcomers, the squads are looking in fine shape and have the potential to deliver some stars of the future.”

Cokethorpe School is an independent day school for 660 girls and boys aged four to eighteen, set in 150 acres of beautiful Oxfordshire parkland two miles south of Witney and ten miles to the west of Oxford. Discover more at the Open Morning: Saturday 26 September 2015, 9:30am-12:00pm.
