Look Younger for Longer
"For almost every surgical procedure, there is a non-invasive option which means no downtime, minimal discomfort and a speedier recovery."
Top beauty and skincare expert shares her Harley Street Secrets.
If 50 is the new 40 and 40 is the new 30, someone must be getting something right. There has never been more acute pressure to look ‘well’ and ‘glowing’ regardless of the neglect we show to that most precious of organs, our skin. After the dark months of stuffy indoor living, there is a myth fuelled by selfies and airbrushed celebrity snaps, that the spirit of summer can be embraced by binning the bobble hats and the BB cream and launching our happy, shiny faces out there.
Renowned experts (and husband and wife) Dr Aamer Khan and Lesley Reynolds, founders of the famous Harley Street Skin Clinic, are under siege from a vast celebrity clientele desperate to achieve this fresh and natural look. Dr Khan became a full time cosmetic doctor in 2005 and has dedicated the past 15 years to perfecting anti-ageing skin treatments.
Renowned for his finely tuned aesthetic eye and his very gentle and subtle approach to cosmetic enhancement, Dr Khan specialises in ground breaking, non-invasive treatments, focusing on the face and neck and primarily designed to keep the surgeon’s knife at bay. Dr Khan does not focus his attention purely on the stars, as he has helped thousands of men and women – including injured soldiers in Afghanistan each with a concern to look and feel as good as they can. In fact, the clinic has set up its own charity ‘Back on Track’, to support injured service personnel and burns victims. Dr Khan explains how the charity was founded: “I met a lovely 21 year old boy who was a double amputee and burns victim, and I fell in love with his wonderful spirit and wanted to do all I could to help him.”
At the swish premises in Harley Street, Dr Khan goes on to outline the Harley Street Skin Clinic’s philosophy: “Nowadays, women and men want maximum results with the minimum recovery time. For almost every surgical procedure, there is now a non-invasive option which means no downtime, minimal discomfort and a much speedier recovery.”
His wife Lesley, the successful author of the bestselling ‘Look Younger for Longer’ and a regular guest on This Morning and Lorraine, has been a tour-de-force in the skincare world for decades. Lesley trained and worked in the US, pioneering her own cosmeceutical skincare products through intensive scientific research. She believes that the key is to nourish your skin on a daily basis, and not just depend on a monthly facial to do the hard work all in one go.
Both Lesley and Dr Khan are evangelical that cosmetic surgery should never be the first point of action when gentle and effective alternatives are available. The clinic has pioneered a ‘5 Point Instant Facelift’ which is gentle, quick and effective. As Lesley comments: “Non-surgical treatments are now more popular than going under the knife and very good results can be achieved in the hands of a skilful injector.”
As to which procedure to recommend, it really depends on the concern, if its sagging skin around the jowls, PDO or Silhouette Soft sutures can lift it nicely and naturally. If it’s a loss of volume in the temples and cheeks, dermal fillers can help to replace the deficit beautifully. Fine lines and wrinkles on the cheeks can be ‘ironed’ out with radio frequency treatments such as Forma. Nose to mouth lines can be reduced by lifting the cheeks with threads, or with dermal fillers. There’s so much to talk about, that really, only a thorough consultation with a practitioner can help you make an informed decision.
