BeauVamp and Blackpop: The Light of Fashion

Traditional lighting brand BeauVamp have recently teamed up with British textile and wallpaper designers Blackpop. This specially curated collection of lampshades features five of Blackpop’s unique silk designs, each beautifully paired with a selection of handpicked fringing and braids.

Each lampshade is hand sewn and pleated around our bespoke bronze frames and paired with our specially commissioned fringes produced on local looms here in Derbyshire, some of which we have hand dipped to produce a stunning ombré effect. The Tiffany range of lampshades are left unlined to let the maximum amount of light travel through the silk giving them a truly vibrant glow when lit and allowing the beautiful pleating to be visible from the inside.

“We’ve had great fun working together and I love how this mix of punk maximalism meets traditionalism.” Says Alice from BeauVamp.

BeauVamp

BeauVamp is a vibrant British lighting brand specialising in bespoke hand stitched silk lampshades combining traditional sewing techniques with vintage inspired design and contemporary style.

“Everything we do is designed from scratch in our Derbyshire studio with meticulous attention to detail. We offer a bespoke design service with a huge colour pallet to choose from, including all the finishing touches from fancy braids and dip dyed fringing through to vintage inspired pendant accessories. We like to source as much as we can locally, working closely with British crafts people and skilled artisans including wood turners and metal workers”. Our signature Tiffany Collection was launched in 2018 showcasing a collection of lustrous handwoven silks and fringing inspired by the roaring 1920’s Art Deco era. This year we have just launched our new hand dipped Ombré Fringing Collection to further complement our lampshades.

Full of faded grandeur with a vibrant statement style, their unique designs exude an edgy punk-like take on the past, drawing on inspiration as eclectic as Tudor portraits, Abstract Artists, and the rhythm of Jazz. Each collection features a mix of abstract mark-making to create contemporary wallpapers and velvet fabrics full of tonal range, intricate patterns and opulent textures. Blackpop’s unique designs are celebrated worldwide by both commercial and domestic clients.

Wood as Art Form

Michelle Heather

When I visited FarmED at Shipton-under-Wychwood earlier this year, I could not help but notice some absolutely stunning wood sculptures in the reception area and on display in the café.

Jeremy Catto: A Portrait of the Quintessential Oxford Don

Phillip Baldwin reviews a new biography by David Vaiani

I first met Jeremy Catto at an Oxford University open day in 2002, when we chatted intensely about Tudor History and current affairs. I read Modern History at Oriel College from 2003-2006, the year of Jeremy’s retirement.

Customs and traditions are often things we accept without question. Why do we put candles on a birthday cake? Why is it called a honeymoon? What exactly is mistletoe?
