From Bobby Darin to Michael Bublé, The Story of Swing comes to Northampton – Deco on 31 March and we have a pair of tickets to give away.

The glorious 20-piece big band, Jazz Collossus will be hosted by Gareth John who has worked with groups including The Beautiful South and The Specials. He will be taking the audience on a musical journey of swing and big-band classics.

Playing the music made popular by Bobby Darin, Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr, Harry Connick Jr and Michael Bublé, Gareth will be joined by some very special guests on the night, including Alison Wheeler and Gaz Birtles (ex-Beautiful South) and local singer, Florence Pearce, Sinatra tribute artist, Morgan Perkins and singer-songwriter, Daryl Kirkland.

Gareth comments: ‘The Story of Swing debut show at such a beautiful venue as The Deco Theatre is quite literally a dream come for me. As a passionate exponent of the genre of swing and big band music in today’s world, this type of show is something I’ve wanted to do for many years. To share the stage with somebody with as storied a career as Alison is a huge honour, and having worked with Morgan for some years now, I can honestly say the audience are in for a treat.’

For the uninitiated, Nell Mescal (yes, sister of actor Paul) is an Irish singer-songwriter who hit the festival circuit hard last summer, playing (amongst others) The Great Escape, BST Hyde Park, Boardmasters and Live at Leeds. This year, she’s headed to Oxfordshire and Alex James’ Big Feastival for August bank holiday weekend. Eloise Lonsdale caught up with her to find out more about her musical style and her recently launched EP, Can I Miss it For a Minute.
