I cannot overstate how much I am yearning for the ditch of functional shoes right now. I mean, I love a chunky boot and a cushioned sole as much as the next flat-footed person but oh, for a heel! For the pure impracticalness, for the pleasure of dressing frivolously. I’m dreaming of a life in which I am wearing these woven nappa leather ankle boots by luxury British shoe-makers, Russell & Bromley. Not only do they feature a fairly vertiginous spike heel but also toe as pointed as the caustic wit of Dorothy Parker. And, I want them as pictured here, in strictly nonutilitarian white. Sensible is no longer an option.

The Salvation Army is known for its longstanding commitment to reuse and recycling. To tackle the problem of unwearable clothing and household linens which cannot be reused, Salvation Army Trading Company Ltd (SATCoL), the trading arm of the charity, is running a regional trial in partnership with Tesco which aims to encourage customers to donate worn out textiles to specially designed textile collection banks.
