From InStil Design you will benefit from exceptional bathroom designs, supply of high- quality bathroom products and outstanding service. InStil Design also work closely with contractors, developers and architects and can supply complete working drawings using the latest CAD software. InStil Design covers Oxford, Abingdon, Henley-on-Thames, Newbury and their adjoining areas in Oxfordshire, Berkshire, and Buckinghamshire. The small but perfectly formed team is headed up by Martina Landhed, Design Director.

Back in January 2020, we talked about how the uncertainty of Brexit had caused spending growth to slow
in 2019. Little did we know that the Retail industry would become almost unrecognisable overnight, as a result of the restrictions imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

What can we take from one of the most challenging years in recent times? The way we work has changed, we have adapted and found new ways to reach and serve our customers. Remote working, conducting meetings, client consultations and presentations via video calls has become the new normal. The team at InStil Design and our customers have adapted with ease and we foresee this to continue post COVID-19 and beyond...

However, we still believe our physical showroom remains the most powerful asset
for our clients to experience what InStil Design can offer, from design, quality products and personalised service. So as the restrictions for retailers loosen, we look forward to inviting new and existing clients to our beautiful showroom just outside Oxford’s ring road with plenty of space for parking. We have safety measures in place to protect customers, employees, and suppliers. But as our showroom has limited space, we ask our clients to make an appointment before visiting to make sure they feel safe and give them the confidence to return to the store.

At InStil Design the mood is one of optimism for the year ahead. We attribute our survival in this extremely difficult year to having the ability to adapt to the situation using our creative skills. Given the challenges of the last 12 months, what are the new trends we see coming for bathrooms in 2021?

Luxurious Spa Spaces

The space we can retreat to and have a bit of ‘me’ time is the bathroom, so it is important that the bathroom design delivers an at-home spa-like atmosphere so we can linger for longer. We will see large format luxury tiles in combination with feature tiles in herringbone pattern or interesting mosaic. Spa-like alcoves for storage in combination with, special finishes brassware and accessories like brushed brass and golds or warmer dark bronze finishes., in combinations with luxurious large walk-in showers and multiple outlet shower heads allowing indulgent showering experience in your own home. Emphasizing the connection between water and wellbeing.

Fluted and ribbed surfaces

We will see more fluted and ribbed surfaces both on glass, metal and woods with a contemporary twist. The look is reminiscent of Art Deco glamour now being reinvented. Delicately ribbed surfaces on vanity units and cabinets provide subtle interest, and shower doors in decorative, vertically grooved glass offer instant privacy while allowing light to shine through.

Woods and open units

We will see a comeback of wood finishes in furniture items like vanity units and storage cabinets, in a wide range of colour tones from Scandinavian blond oak to black oak and warmer brown wood finishes in between. Open storage units will also be popular in 2021.

Bold colours and pendant lights

Strong bold colours like rich greens, dark blues and warm reds is on the comeback for walls as well as bathroom furniture and we will see more available beautiful IP rated bathroom pendants lights on the market in different textures, glass finishes and colours.

Traditional with a twist

Victorian roll top baths have never disappeared and continue to be popular but next we will also see it blended with modern schemes with sleek alcoves, bright tiles and the latest tech such as integrated TV’s and blue tooth speaker systems.

Shower toilets, steam rooms and Saunas

We will continue to see an increase demand for traditional saunas, steam rooms and shower toilets and we are very pleased to be approved supplier of TylöHelo, a Nordic sauna company, specialising in creating traditional saunas and wellness experiences for a modern lifestyle with 170 years of accumulated knowledge and Geberit, a Swiss multinational group specialised in manufacturing and supplying shower toilets since 1978, anyone who has experienced this fresh, clean feeling will never want to go without it again.

We, InStil Design, provide a complete bathroom design service to the end user, helping you create your dream bathroom. Focusing on delivering comprehensive design solutions, innovative space saving ideas whilst specifying the finest fittings providing you with an individual and unique bathroom.

Realising your vision of the perfect bathroom starts with finding the perfect designer and ends with the craftsmanship of the right professional and quality installer. Meadows are wonderful, evolving entities. The first year of any meadow it has a huge array of beautiful annuals for colour, however your subsequent years are always a fantastic surprise as to what you will get. Different flowers will germinate in different years all dependant on the condition of the soil, weather etc.

When artist Julia Sorrell contacted me to see if I thought our readers might be interested in the story of how she and husband, Ian, renovated their property in Shipton-under-Wychwood, I jumped at the chance to learn more. Their aim was to use as many recycled materials as possible, and they will be opening their home to visitors during Oxfordshire Artweeks in May.
