The Most Useful Web Services for the Locals

We like to think that when it comes to all things Oxfordshire, we have it covered. While we love covering local events, fashion, dining, lifestyle, and other topics, we also know where else to look online for services that can benefit Oxonians and those living nearby.

Sports fans in Oxfordshire have a great selection of teams to follow, with one of the best being Gary Rowett's Oxford United.

Oxford returned to the English Championship thanks to a 2024 play-off final win against Bolton, and fans can keep up to date with all the action with the Sky Sports Scores app, or visit the top UK licensed and non Gamstop bookies for all the latest betting odds.

Online gambling expert Elliot Law explains that non-Gamstop operators are offshore alternatives to UK betting sites, with many offering bigger bonuses and more generous odds. Fans hoping for Oxford to improve on its 17th-place finish and push for the play-offs next season could get some decent odds.

Uber Eats, Just Eat, and Deliveroo are great options for Oxford locals who want to pursue the best takeaway options that deliver to their homes. Not only can consumers search through a wide selection of menus and cuisines, but they can also read reviews to find the perfect dish.

Oxford locals and visitors can easily get around by using public transport, with bus service information and tickets available across the three main companies, the Oxford Bus Company, Stagecoach Oxfordshire, and Thames Travel. Rail passengers can easily travel further afield, with Oxford Train Station offering routes to London, Southampton, Wales, and Manchester. National Rail's website provides all the details users will need.

If you are looking for a quick and handy solution for your travel needs, Uber is an excellent option. Users are able to book cars quickly and easily using the Uber app.

Oxfordshire locals can download a library app to make finding their favourite books easier. Simply scan a barcode or enter a title to see which Oxfordshire libraries have it in stock. Users can then reserve a copy and go and collect it, with addresses and opening times all available to check.

Oxfordshire County Council also has an excellent energy-saver app that uses state-of-the-art technology to analyse energy use. Users can then explore personalized suggestions that can help them save energy and reduce emissions.

All Oxfordshire residents who use a smart meter are eligible to use the app, and it has been shown to save users an average of £200 over the course of a year.

Locals hoping to discover all the latest events in the area can check out the This is Oxfordshire website, with sporting and business events, as well as all local festivals and performances being listed with times, locations, and costs.

Students can also make use of the Ox Events App, which provides users with an easy way to check all student nights and entertainment that is happening in and around Oxford.

Being able to access online help and advice, as well as entertainment and information about local events, offers Oxford consumers an impressive level of convenience. Businesses, sports teams, and local councils all keep followers up to date, and providing a quick and easy way to get in contact has helped improve services and bring communities together.

Since The Store opened on the former site of Boswells it has become my go-to place to meet friends. Squishy velvet sofas, friendly staff, delicious coffee and a relaxed yet luxurious vibe (reluxed?). There’s also the possibility of spotting an A-lister amongst the mix of glamorous guests and locals hanging out in the lounge or slipping through to retreat down to the spa. I’ve also cocktailed on the roof (those views!) and dined at Treadwell, the hotel’s modern British restaurant, so I didn’t need asking twice if I would like to go along to review the new Spring menu.
