The Boat Building Academy

Providing ‘hands-on’ learning.

divider

The Boat Building Academy provides full-time, highly practical skills training with the emphasis on ‘hands-on’ learning. The school was founded in 1997 by Commander Tim Gedge and was recently granted charity status in January 2020.

Our flagship 40-week Boat Building course teaches men and women to build boats to the highest professional standards across a range of construction types. The course also allows for a handful of students to build their own boats as part of their training.

People come from all over the world to join the course - meaning no two courses are alike. There is no fixed skill requirement: all we ask for is enthusiasm, motivation and dedication to the training.

By the end of 40 weeks, each student leaves the Academy with a Level 3 City & Guilds qualification and the key skills needed to work in the marine industries – ready for whatever path they take next.

For further information and how to apply, go to www.boatbuildingacademy.com.

Alternatively, you can speak to Janine or George in the office on 01297 445545 or email office@boatbuildingacademy.com

Meadows are wonderful, evolving entities. The first year of any meadow it has a huge array of beautiful annuals for colour, however your subsequent years are always a fantastic surprise as to what you will get. Different flowers will germinate in different years all dependant on the condition of the soil, weather etc.

When artist Julia Sorrell contacted me to see if I thought our readers might be interested in the story of how she and husband, Ian, renovated their property in Shipton-under-Wychwood, I jumped at the chance to learn more. Their aim was to use as many recycled materials as possible, and they will be opening their home to visitors during Oxfordshire Artweeks in May.
