After a summer of women’s football dominating the headlines following the Lioness’s historic Euro’s victory, we were eager to learn more about our local team and showcase ‘Oxford’s own Hannah Hampton’, Oxford United’s goalkeeper Beth Howard.
Oxford United Women’s Football Club (OUWFC) was founded in the 1991-92 season and affiliated with the men’s team the following year. As of this June, they have adopted a hybrid professional model, with ambitious plans to develop the squad. Beth has just started her second season for Oxford and when she’s not in Oxford for training and matches, she is based in Street, Somerset, where she works as a personal trainer. Before signing for OUWFC, she spent a season at Southampton and previously played for Yeovil United in the Women's Super League. Prior to this, she spent four years in the United States playing for Rider University, where she was named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Goalkeeper of the Year. We wanted to find out…
What Makes Beth
Happy
Winning football matches, spending time with my friends and family, playing video games.
Sad
Losing football matches, seeing friends and family go through hard times.
Angry
People who are selfish or people who don't think or care about how their actions impact other people.
Confident
Repeated actions from years of practice and reflection. My teammates supporting me.
Thoughtful
I often think about my future and how I want my life to look, and how I can keep on the path to achieving those things
A Winner
I'm hugely competitive and believe that winning is the most important thing in football. I will push to help the team achieve that in whatever way it takes: whether that be a beautiful and confident 4-0 win, or a scrappy 1-0 or 2-1.
OUWFC upcoming fixtures include Exeter City on Sunday 14 September and Real Bedford on Sunday 21 September. For more information including the full list for the 2025-2026 season, visit oufc.co.uk.
