Fancy being Aldi’s partner in wine? Shoppers will be delighted to learn that doors to Aldi’s Wine Club are once again open.

The supermarket is recruiting thirty wine enthusiasts to trial its NEW range of brilliant wines – for free!

Successful applicants will receive three bottles from Aldi’s upcoming Spring Summer wine range, which launches in stores on 18th March, to test and review over an eight-week period.

All chosen vino lovers need to do in return is share honest reviews of the wines across their social media channels, using the dedicated #AldiWineClub hashtag.

Julie Ashfield, Managing Director of Buying, Aldi UK says: “We embrace the opportunity to gather feedback from our trusted shoppers.

“It helps the buying team shape wine ranges into what they are – great tasting, award-winning, delivering on both quality and price. We look forward to welcoming the next thirty Aldi Wine Club members on board.”

Mistress of Wine, Sam Caporn says: shoppers can brush up on their wine tasting skills by following the five S’s to tasting wine:

See: “Take a good look into the glass as the colour will give an indication to the style of wine. A deep red will suggest youth and a full-bodied wine, while a pale colour will propose it is lighter and juicier.”

Swirl: “Pour a small measure and swirl the glass anti-clockwise. Swirling ensures a more intense aroma, as it releases what are called 'volatile' aromatics.”

Sniff: “You don't really taste wine, you smell wine - so this stage is important. Take short, sharp sniffs rather than breathing in deeply for a long time.”

Sip: “Sipping is where the magic happens! The aromas in your mouth go up your nose and the wine onto your taste buds, allowing you to appreciate the delicious flavours in the glass.”

Savour: “Now relax, savour those deep flavours that are developing in your mouth and enjoy!”

To be in with a chance of landing the role, budding tasters simply need to send an email to Aldiwineclub@clarioncomms.co.uk with the below details:

  • Full name
  • Proof of age
  • The name of your social media handles and the number of followers for each account
  • 150 words explaining why you think you should be selected as part of Aldi’s Wine Club
  • What your favourite Aldi wine is and why?

Entries are now open until Monday 4th March. To enter now and view the full T&Cs, visit the Aldi Wine Club page ongroceries.aldi.co.uk/en-GB/beers-wines-spirits/wine-club

Earlier this year, Little Clarendon Street was named one of the coolest places in the UK. The glowing report cited shops like Wild Honey and The Jericho Cheese Company, as well as community hub, Common Ground, and the now departed Wilding restaurant. Happily this prime venue has not stayed vacant for long. Kibou, the Japanese Kitchen and Bar, has opened its latest outpost in Jericho, and I went along to try out their contemporary and very stylish take on Japanese classics and street food.

I’m always wary of being reductive when it comes to Father’s Day (or Mother’s Day, for that matter) but surely a backyard barbie is peak summer ‘dad’ and the Tracklements Father’s Day Gift Box will be received with great pleasure by any foodie father or epicurean uncle.
