The Tasting Menu at The Feathered Nest

The Feathered Nest

Going back to a venue that bowled you over the first time you visited, did it again the second time, and again on the third, is always risky. After all, how can you improve upon or even maintain this standard of excellence? As you can imagine, it was with a little trepidation that I accepted the invitation to experience the tasting menu from the new Head Chef Renemar Pinedo.

The Feathered Nest beckons food enthusiasts from near and far, and the tasting menu is a celebration of the finest local and seasonal ingredients, skilfully crafted into a symphony of flavours to tantalise the palate and ignite the senses.

From the moment you step into the warm and inviting ambiance of The Feathered Nest, you are taken on a gastronomic journey which promises to leave an indelible mark both your taste buds and memories. It is designed by and demonstrates the prowess and creativity of Renemar Pinedo. Originally from the Caribbean Island of Curaçao, he started his career at the esteemed Restaurant Rozemarijn in Holland before moving to the UK and working at leading venues such as Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons and Dabbous. He then joined the kitchen at the three AA Rosette Feathered Nest and, as Head Chef, takes inspiration from his Caribbean roots with a focus on fresh seafood and open grill cooking.

His superb tasting menu sets the stage for the culinary voyage with delicate and visually stunning appetisers including a sublime tuna tartare. The balance of flavours and textures in the initial courses set the high standard which persists throughout. The main courses showcase the mastery of the chefs: our menu featured meticulously crafted dishes including pork belly, roasted monkfish, and loin of Cotswold venison, followed by dark chocolate espuma and a final divine matcha green tea and yuzu entremet.

Wine pairings play an integral role in enhancing the experience and the restaurant’s knowledgeable sommelier is on hand with a selection of wines to complement and elevate the flavours of each dish, harmonising the creations to perfection. In fact, the marriage of food and wine is seamless, adding another layer of enjoyment to the already extraordinary dining experience.

Attention to detail extends beyond the plate, as the service at The Feathered Nest is warm, knowledgeable and unobtrusive, adding to the overall sense of refinement and luxury. Beyond the cookery experience, the idyllic location in the heart of the Cotswolds provides a backdrop of natural beauty and whether enjoying a pre-dinner stroll through the countryside or lingering over coffee in the restaurant’s garden, guests have the opportunity to savour the serenity and charm of the surroundings. In all, this is a true celebration of the senses.

The Feathered Nest in Nether Westcote invites guests to transcend the ordinary. It is testament to the restaurant’s unwavering commitment to excellence, creativity, and the art of hospitality. From the first tantalising bite to the final sip of wine, the tasting menu is an experience that promises to linger in the memories of all who have the pleasure of partaking of its delights. The Feathered Nest’s tasting menu is not simply a meal; it’s an immersive journey that combines exquisite cuisine, impeccable service, and breath-taking surroundings, inviting guests to lose themselves in the pleasures of exceptional food and hospitality.

I’m always wary of being reductive when it comes to Father’s Day (or Mother’s Day, for that matter) but surely a backyard barbie is peak summer ‘dad’ and the Tracklements Father’s Day Gift Box will be received with great pleasure by any foodie father or epicurean uncle.

In its 250-year history, Oxford’s Covered Market has had a rich and varied heritage. Now, in 2024, it has morphed into something of a foodie hot spot and social centre.

I was lucky enough to be invited down with a friend to experience a ‘food safari’ and was only too happy to accept the offer, with gusto.
